Jazz With The Kids

Sharon asks:  My nephew is going to be in town for a few days in April.  He is 15.  Do you know of any places to hear jazz (and maybe eat) where he can get in? Any other suggestions for a 15 year old who likes music?

Home_jazz_man DC Concierge:  Even the underage get to indulge at DC jazz legend hotspot HR-57 at 14/Q.  This BYOB (for you, not your nephew) is actually a nonprofit and gets amazing talent for features and open mics.  To include some dining with your jazz, hit up Utopia on U Street.  Ask for a table in the back if you plan to have conversation. Two downtown spots for jazz brunch are the M Street Bar and Grill (22/M) and Chef Geoffs (14/F).  For other DC things to impress your young musician, check out the hip hop exhibit at the National Portrait Gallery (8/F) called Recognize! or help him get his vinyl collection going with my list of DC's hottest record shops.  All the cool aunts are doing it!
